AMAPONDO GIRL... AFTER THE FACT- A POEM

Amapondo Girl

I see what you see...I feel what you wish to be...
Through the eyes of my soul...I see into yours
Through the eyes of my heart ...I see into yours... together we are free!

Green sugar- loafed hills of the wild -wild Trans"kay"-
Clothed in primal tight-skinned Kikuyu array
Sensual curves of naked feminine display
Forested in places where eyes should never stray...!

Wafts of fragrant flowered breezes from secret hidden recesses
Intoxicates and inebriates my sojourn into her Xhosa excesses!
Curtains of salt-misted veils drift through her valleys and trails
Giant Waves crashing- embracing eternal the lovers painful travails

I sit and ponder in revelation and wonder...
Breathing in the beauty of the land they call the "Amapondo""
I am awakened by the wind- surfers shadow overhead
Hovering harmoniously awaiting amorously for an unsuspecting head!

At night I stare into her skies
Midnight diamond eyes...and I realise who I am...
And she makes me understand...how it is is to be a man!
How it is is to believe that I can...I can!

Waterfalls, whales, dolphins and treeses
Tell of her splendour and how she does what she pleases
This woman , this girl , this land ... this world...
Her soft, dark earth... her love ...her worth....

Amapondo Girl you are my world!
You are the stars of the universe like a magic carpet unfurled...
You are the fearless unknown - through the ages unbroken
Amapondo Girl, Amapondo Girl...

As fresh as the dew... as old as the world

I see what you see...I feel what you wish to be...
Through the eyes of my soul...I see into yours
Through the eyes of my heart ...I see into yours...and together we are free

Amapondo Girl, Amapondo Girl...

As fresh as the dew... as old as the world!
